Chance's call came on Friday September 12th, 2008. Mission calls usually arrive on Wednesdays in Tremonton and they usually only take a 2 to 3 weeks from the time the papers are submitted. It took 7 to 8 weeks for Chance's call to come. We were getting pretty nervous. I kept telling him that the Bishops store house in Brigham City didn't have an opening yet. It was Grandma Kate's Birthday. What a wonderful gift to her. He came up to the office and carried his call around all day and held it close to his heart. DeDe would ask if she could hold it and he told her "okay but only for a minute", and then he would say "okay give it back."
We had a bunch of family members and friends there to watch.
Dear Elder Scott: You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Chile Santiago East Mission. I thought he was joking. Everyone made guesses and I was the one who was way off. I was bound and determined he was staying in the states. Chance knew all along that he would be going to preach the gospel to Indians. I figured that he would be going to Arizona to the Rez. Wow was I way off.
Chance & Grandpa Ray pulled out the map Jan sent over and went straight to finding Santiago Chile. Grandpa couldn't believe that Chance was going over the "Big Pond".
