Goodbye MTC hello Chile

Chance left the Provo MTC on Monday January 26Th, 2009. He arrived in Santiago Chile on Tuesday January 27Th, 2009. Chance was able to call us from the Dallas Fort Worth airport Monday night. It was so good to hear his voice. He sounded so completely happy. I thought that maybe he would have an accent already but he didn't. The only thing different about the way he talked was that he kept saying ya ya for yes. I laughed and told him that he sounded like Ya Ya from the Sandlot. He thought that was funny. He was very excited to be headed to Chile. He is excited to get to work.
Tuesday evening the mission presidents wife called the house and said that Chance had arrived, that he is happy and excited to do the Lords work. That meant the world to me.

Loving the MTC

Chance is having a great time at the MTC. He said that he was glad he was able to be in the MTC durning the Holidays. The missionaries were treated with special speakers on Christmas Day.
Well it is Christmas here at the MTC. How was Grandpa's party on Christmas Eve? It was great here. Honestly one that I will never forget! We had an amazingly good devotional. We started off singing Oh Com All Ye Faithful and got about halfway through the song and everyone stood up. I couldn't see who had walked in but I could definitely feel it! The spirit was like a shock wave that went though the entire room. It was pretty cool to be here and have the chance to listen to Elder Bednar. He spoke with such power and the spirit was pouring out of him. At least it kept my mind off of being with you guys at Papa Ray's place especially when I got to shake the mans hand that doesn't just testify of Christ like everyone else but bears WITNESS. Think about that for a while!!!!
After the devotional, we all went to my room and had our own little meeting. We read Luke 2 and sand a few songs, then we went around and shared our feelings with each other. This morning we woke up and had cinnamon rolls that Elder John Horton from Sky Views grandma made and sent. Then we went to get our presents from the MTC. They gave us a tie, Mo Tab CD, and one of those 8 color scripture marker things. I was impressed that they would give us something. Then we came back to our room and went around in a circle taking turns opening regalos. It was fun. At nine we had another devotional. This time we go to listen to Jeffrey R. Holland. It was good as well. I wish I had half the Spiritual knowledge that man has!!! It surprised me that he would take his Christmas and come talk to us, but I think EVERYONE Loves the missionaries.
I'm excited to get out of here and meet and talk to real people. Christmas dinner was actually good unlike Thanksgiving ha-ha. They had real turkey not the crap in the can like we have in the basement. Sounds like you had a white Christmas. So did we. There is probably 5-6 inches here. Elder Casperson has never seen more than about 1 inch of snow.
We are in some scripture marking devotional thing right now. Send me a gun. It's horrible. Caspie is leaning his head on my shoulder right now and taking a snooze ha-ha. It's almost 4:00 now. I fell asleep at about 12 and slept till 3. It was the first nap I have had for along time. I guess Ross and Jon have called home by now. It won't be too long and I will be calling you guys from the airport.
I got a letter from your new bishop. Is my plaque at our old church like you said it would be?
Oh we put all the food I have in a sack and weighed it. Turned out at about 48 lbs. We're almost out of Mountain Dews. We would like some of them if you can have your guy you know that works here or something get some for me that would be sweet so you don't have to pay shipping. 2 twelve packs preferably. ha-ha... Before I leave here I need a new better watch. This one will randomly stop from time to time for some reason and the light doesn't work now. Good ol' Timex for ya.
Everyone is jealous of my 42 tie tie collection. I got one everyday for about a month and a half!
We figured out how to break into the other rooms that are empty. All you need is dental floss, a 3X5 card, a hanger and a vacuum cord ha-ha. No wonder people in maximum security look to find ways to do weird stuff. Also figured out how to get the timer off the email ha-ha... Could sell that discovery for a pretty penny.
Sounds like you went to Spencer's place to watch the kids. Everyone here asks if they are my brothers and sisters. I can't wait to see a kid down in Chile and be able to give them a good piece of candy or gum.
Tell Bailey I'm wearing her pink tie!!!!
Tonight at 7:00 Elder Perry is going to speak to us so that will be good. I'm glad I got to be here over the holidays. It mixes the schedule up and it's not the same everyday for 10 weeks.
I'm going to send a box of stuff home with my branch president when I leave. He offered to bring home everything I wasn't going to take to Chile with me. He is a good guy. Probably have him drop it off at grandpas house. It will have my planner in it and you can see what I do everyday here. I sent one of the John Deere cards you made me to Charlie about a week & a half ago.
I got the calendar hung up. Looks like we will leave here the same day as Jeff's birthday.
Tell who ever gave me the oil key chain thing thanks. I consecrated some oil in Spanish to put in it last week.
Tomorrow we get to go help clean the temple. That will be pretty cool I hope!
We hit it just right. We had "P" Day right after Thanksgiving and after Christmas.
Keep me posted on stuff and let me know what is going on. I miss you and you're always on my mind and in my heart. Thanks again for teaching me to be the man I am. I wouldn't be here without that. I don't know why anyone even questions coming on a mission. I hope someday you and mom get the experience and you will be writing me on you "P" days.
How much longer before Kacey will get his call? I would like to see him open that, but tell his mom to take some pictures and send them my way. My guess is Seoul South Korea or (#@%**&) Ha-ha. I see those name tags and just laugh. ha-ha at least I use the same alphabet stuff. He will be a 13-14 weeker like some of the other guys here.
I will keep my eyes open for Justin Jon's cousin. I will only have a week left when he gets here. I will have to pass the nerf gun down to him.
I have some pictures I need to send home sometime for ya.
Well I got other letters to write to all of you so I love you and thanks for everything.
Love Chance
